On Site Engraving 2,000 Lightbulbs at Light Fair International 2018

On site engraving 2,000 lightbulbs at an event called Light Fair International is way beyond just another a trade show booth animation. It’s an innovative experience for tradeshow attendees that will keep people talking about your brand for years to come.

A few months ago were contacted by the Head of Customer Sales and Training for Ledvance, Robert Cilic. Their team had the idea of engraving lightbulbs at their tradeshow booth in Chicago. They had called several places and no one could do it. They even though about bringing an engraver in from Germany who specialized in this type of engraving on very thin glass. However, Rob didn’t want to give up looking more locally. We had engraved fine perfume bottles in the past as well as wine and liquor bottles. We were willing to give it a shot.

Rob sent us a pack of bulbs to try with our high speed drill. The drill’s RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) was 350,000 and it cut right through the glass. (Nothing exploded because these are LED lightbulbs filled with gas, no pressure.) One of our engravers, Meg, suggested we try a Dremel tool that only spins 35,000 RPMs, much slower. We did and it worked!

Here is a picture of the three masterminds who figured it all out and were the toast of the show, Meg, Rob and Desiree.

Rob and his team quickly put a beautiful booth plan together for us to showcase our on site engraving as well as beautiful packaging for the lamps themselves.

The on site engraving was such a hit, there were lines in the tradeshow booth all three days non-stop! We engraved lightbulbs for VIPs for companies like Home Depot and Samsung.

We were also asked to engrave on site at events each of the three nights of the conference at the Hard Rock Cafe, the Shedd Aquarium, and a media event at Bassment in downtown Chicago.

Clients loved the unique gifts at each event and wanted two or three for friends and family. The engraving never stopped the entire time we were at each event.

The best part was when a young man walked up to Desiree, our CEO and asked her to engrave a lightbulb for him to use when he asked his girlfriend to marry him. Desiree was honored to create a beautiful, engraved bulb for him right on the spot.

Desiree engraved, “You light up my life.” on one side and, “Will you marry me?” on the other. The lightbulb became the story of the show! Even the CEO, Jacob Tarn, stepped out to take a picture with the young man and Ledvance offered to give him lighting for his wedding day.

Light Fair International in Chicago was a wonderful experience for both our company and our clients. Hand Engraved Wine Bottles for Triumph Motorcycles USA Dealers

Hand engraved wine bottles were the gift of choice when Triumph Motorcycles® USA decided to announce winners of their Dealer of the Year Patagonia adventure trip contest in a very unique way. Inkwell Designers were there to help make this idea come to life very quickly. We had less than two weeks to pull it all together.

Emily from Triumph Motorcycles USA headquarters found Inkwell Designers℠ online and called about getting 12 bottles of Argentinian Malbec wine engraved with the Triumph logo. She asked us to find the bottles, engrave them and deliver them to her office. We took on the challenge immediately.

What Emily didn’t know is our CEO, Desiree Colonna, is an avid Triumph motorcycle rider and owns a 2012 Triumph Bonneville which she rides are her primary bike. What a thrill to work with the company that had given her the beautiful bike she loves to ride around Atlanta!

Emily wanted the logo engraved into the bottles. We can take you through the steps we took to make that happen.

We first printed the logo and mountain scheme on architect paper which has a sticky back to it.

Then we actually stuck these where they needed to be placed on the wine bottles and used a stippling motion to engrave over them. The logo and mountains are made of hundreds of hand stippled dots. This is very different from etching or sandblasting where you need a special toxic cream or machine to do the work. These wine bottles are all engraved by hand with great care.

Once we finished the stippling, we added the hand engraved calligraphy. All of this was created with a dental drill handpiece. This is the final result.

We also had our calligraphy artist, Meg Mitchell, create thank you notes by hand for each dealer which were included with the hand engraved wine bottles.

The hand engraved wine bottles were a huge hit around the office when we delivered them in person. We were treated to a tour of all the fun motorcycles in the office which was a highlight for Desiree and her husband, Joe.

There was even a very cool wall of Triumph history with various iterations of their logo and bikes throughout the years.

Desiree’s favorite bike was the custom bike with the wooden seat created for a movie.

We took this project from idea to reality and made the process so easy for Emily at Triumph. We found the bottles, picked them up, engraved them and then delivered them. All she had to do was make the call!

Holiday Gift Engraving at Hermés in New York Was A Great Honor

Holiday gift engraving at Hermés was in full swing a few weeks ago when Desiree Colonna, our CEO, was flown from Atlanta to New York’s Hermés store on Madison Avenue to engrave fragrances for guests. It was a great honor for her because she was one of very few fragrance engravers in the world to be flown into the Hermés New York location. They only hire engravers two or three times a year.

Desiree spent the day engraving at no charge for all guests who purchased fragrance gifts. The engraving was very popular and clients were very happy to have their fragrance purchases personalized in such a unique way.

Desiree took a selfie from the street her first night. New York is the most beautiful city during the holidays!

The Hermés store does not disappoint in sheer size. It is literally five floors of amazing luxury items including china, footwear, jewelry and their elusive Birkin and Kelly bags. They even have a section devoted to their signature equestrian goods.

The highlight of the trip was when Brian, one of the top salesmen, allowed her to experience a Birkin bag presentation on a break from the holiday gift engraving. Not many people are even allowed to see the $10,000 and up Birkin bags without first being vetted by the salespeople. These bags go as high at$89,000 and are very hard to find. The salesman, Brian, took her behind the scenes to see the bag in real life.

The Birkin bag didn’t disappoint with its supple Italian leather and unique style. This was below is in a color called Tomato Red.

After the presentation, it was back to work. Desiree engraved many bottles for guests including the ones below.

Twilly d’Hermés is their newest and most popular fragrance. It even has their signature scarf around the top of the bottle for extra style and perfect branding!

The holiday gift engraving event was very successful. The store management couldn’t believe how quickly Desiree engraved the bottles without layout or lines stating she was the “fastest engraver they ever had in the store!” They loved the beautiful calligraphy engraving on the bottles and are looking forward to inviting her back again for future holiday gift engraving events.

To top it all off, Mother Nature decided to throw some snow on the scene for a few hours making it the perfect holiday gift engraving experience for all the shoppers.

Desiree flew back to Atlanta that same night enjoying the view from the plane.

Whiskey Glass Engraving at the Savannah Food and Wine Festival

Whisky glass engraving was a well received addition to the Whiskey at the Whitman event sponsored by the Savannah Food and Wine Festival this year. The Whitman is a mansion in the historical Victorian District in Savannah, Georgia. It has been remodeled and restored entirely from the ground up into a beautiful event venue. We are actually engraving in the picture below on the top veranda on the top right corner of the picture. See the bright light? That’s our engraving light shining on all the whiskey glasses!

The Whiskey at the Whitman event featured whiskey, beer and wine from Georgia distilleries, breweries and wineries exclusively for the guests to enjoy. Each guest received a Glencairn whiskey glass specifically for the whiskey glass engraving activation we put together for the event. Wine drinkers were given commemorative wine glasses.

There were also at least 12 different local chefs featured who created food for guests on site including smoked salmon, pork belly, beef belly, grit and lemon eclairs. The 5-star menu was amazing!

Guests traveled to Savannah from as far as Canada, Britain and even Australia to participate at the Whiskey at the Whitman exclusive event.

Our table was set up outside and everyone enjoyed the beautiful Fall night air as we engraved our guests whiskey glasses for four hours straight. This was our first year participating at the Savannah Food and Wine Festival and we were honored to be asked.

We also engraved wine glasses for the guests who chose not to drink whiskey. Everyone went home with an engraved glass of some type. Guests stood in line from the very beginning of the event to the very end.

We look forward to participating in the whiskey glass engraving event again next year and for many years to come!

Perfume Engraving Season Begins at Dillard’s Scentsational Events

Perfume engraving events are one of our many specialties around the holiday season. This year, we are working with Dillard’s in Georgia to engrave perfume and cologne bottles at many of their Scentsational Events around Atlanta. This is our second season working with Dillard’s at these perfume engraving events and we were so honored to be asked back this year.

Our engraving was so popular, we had over 30 pre-ordered bottles ready and waiting for us at the Arbor Place Dillard’s this past week. Customers love watching the engraving happen right in front of them. We’ve been deemed the “fastest engravers in the South” by many customers and clients so it doesn’t take long to engrave a bottle. Our customers don’t have to wait for the results because we don’t have to do any fancy layout beforehand. They see their bottles created within one minute because our engravers have the experience and skills needed to do the job right the first time. We didn’t make one mistake on any of the over 60 bottles we engraved!

Dillard’s loves having this experiential marketing activation (the fancy name for perfume engraving event) because customers typically buy more bottles of perfume the day we’re in the stores. They are beautiful gifts that last forever, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries and the upcoming holiday season.

Dillard’s Scentsational Events will be held all around Georgia over the next 30 days. Here are some examples of perfume bottles we engraved for customers.

We will also be working for Christian Dior every Saturday in December at Macy’s stores around Atlanta, Georgia. Please look at our event calendar to find where we’ll be engraving perfume and cologne next.

Custom Glass Engraving for a Harry Potter Birthday Celebration

Our custom glass engraving service helped make a Harry Potter birthday celebration even more special for the kids at Reformation Brewery. We got the call a few nights before the celebration on July 30 (also happens to be our CEO’s birthday). Merry Quarles from Reformation Brewery asked Desiree if she could create a special “horcrux” for the kids to find at the birthday party. “No problem!” said Desiree. We had done a few live engraving events at Reformation so Merry knew we could handle the job.

Desiree picked up the glass at Reformation that same day and went to work in her engraving studio.

She found the correct “H” online and printed it out on special drafting paper with a sticky back used by draftsmen. Then she pasted the paper on to the glass and started the custom glass engraving process with her handpiece drill. If you look closely at the H, you’ll see it is made up of several hundred dots, like a dot matrix except these are all done by hand. Every dot is carefully placed in the outline of the design. It is a lot of work and takes more time than our regular engraving, but the results are fantastic and we can recreate most any design you can find both online and offline.

Merry told Desiree both the kids and adults loved the glass. Many wanted to take it home, but only the person who found it got to keep it. The glass was a huge hit and made the celebration even more special.
